Paul Murphy is the founder/owner of Paul Murphy Investigations Group LLC and is a retired Boston Police Sergeant Detective, having over 36 years experience, 27 years of which were either as a Detective or a Sergeant Detective.

Paul was initially a Boston Police Officer for six years and an original member of the first gang unit started by the Boston Police in April of 1990 to combat violent activity in the City. He was later promoted to detective and was assigned initially as a district detective in the Dorchester section of the city and later to the Drug Control Unit (DCU), which conducts investigations into violations of the drug laws.

Paul was later promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 1996 and was again assigned to the Department’s gang unit-nights as a Supervisor for three and one-half years. In April of 2000, Paul was transferred back to the Drug Control Unit as a Supervisor of DCU squads where he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant Detective. He remained in this position for eleven years.

In 2011, Paul was assigned as a Supervisor for the Department’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU). The main purpose of this unit is the disruption of criminal activity targeting gangs in the City, as well as drug trafficking organizations and other criminal enterprises. SIU is the Major Case Unit of the Boston Police Department.

Most investigations conducted by this unit are long term and are often conducted in conjunction with other law enforcement agencies, including Federal partners. The unit also provides assistance, including technical support to Police districts in the City, as well as to other specialized units within the Boston Police Department and at times surrounding cities and towns when additional resources are required.

Paul has an extensive background in investigation, surveillance, both physical and electronic. Paul is also a trained and certified OTA (Over the Air) operator, tracking cell phone signals for the purpose of rescuing individuals in peril as well as apprehending criminals that are/were a danger to society.

He has been the recipient of numerous awards and commendations for bravery and excellence in service during his tenure as a law enforcement officer.

Born in Boston, Paul attended Boston College, receiving a Bachelor of Science Degree from the Carroll School of Management and a Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Western New England University.
